Scanned PDFs will come out empty. A scan is a photograph of text; there is no text in the file to extract. That needs OCR, which this tool honestly does not do. Text-based PDFs — anything you could select text in — convert cleanly, with paragraphs and page breaks preserved. Exact layout, columns and images are not carried over: you get clean editable text.
